There Are No Drawbacks To Reverse Osmosis Treatment, Are There?

By: Charles Harper

As we all know, reverse osmosis water filter systems are at high demand nowadays. However, there is a question that appears, considering this physical method of cleansing of water: how can we justify our need of such devices? There are drawbacks for everything, why wouldn't there be for reverse osmosis water filter systems?

The first thing that comes to our mind is this being a physical method, the reverse osmosis treatment should get rid of 99% from the suspended particles that can be found in water. We do not say that this is necessary a bad thing. The bad thing is that during this process we can no longer benefit from the water's natural healing powers.

How come, you may ask? During the reverse osmosis treatment, we may eliminate the, let us say, lead from the water and some other potential harmful metals. However, reverse osmosis water filter systems remove the entire mineral content of the water's magnesium (that helps in the relieving of stress), iron (that helps the respiratory system), calcium (that helps the bone structure), and so on. We may see now what is the problem with such systems.

Another drawback that one might consider is that of the wastefulness. Reverse osmosis water filter systems are very popular because people do not know this thing. During the reverse osmosis treatment, for every gallon of water that is treated, 3 more are wasted. And we al know the water crisis that has hit our planet in the last decades. This way, we may say that we have found another glitch in the system.

And the third thing that we want to mention in here concerns another type of waste. If earlier we talked about how expensive the reverse osmosis water filter systems can be, this time we will talk about something else. During the reverse osmosis treatment, suspended particles remain on the filter and these particles can be beneficial for us (like magnesium or iron) or not (lead). Where do these metals go after the process was completed?

The evacuated water (those 3 gallons we were talking a little earlier) is conducted through a system of pipes one thousand feet underground. One might say that is a long distance to go into our planet. However, environmentalists are warning that sooner than it might be thought these residues will again be infiltrated into the phreatic sheet. And, we can say that today we drink pure water, but what about tomorrow?

Of course, it is not the case to talk about the immensity of such as system (in comparison with other ones) and its expensiveness.

As a conclusion, we can say that the reverse osmosis treatment does more wrong than right. We mean that, yes and it helps when it comes to purifying water, and it helps a lot. However, it strips the liquid from its natural benefits, it is very expensive and it also pollutes the environment. Knowing all of these things, we hope that you will make as soon as possible the right choice, when it comes to selcting the best water purifying system.
