How To Handle Yorkshire Terrier Obedience Training

By: Susan Bailey

It is only natural to be nervous about beginning any sort of Yorkshire Terrier obedience training as many people have never trained a dog before in their life or it was so long ago they really do not recall how to go about it. First thing first, make sure you make a list of all of the different Yorkshire Terrier training lessons that you want your pup to have. Figure out what is most important to you, as that is the one you should do first.
Like any other type of Yorkshire Terrier training, it is important that you have a game plan before you step into action so your training will be a success. Stopping and starting training in the middle or suddenly changing your training techniques will cause more damage then good.
Even though there are many different techniques that would work, once you pick one, you must stick with it for it to be the graceful success that you wished for.
Now that you pretty much know how you are going to go about putting your training methods into action, it is time to select which training lesson should come first. You must pick the one that holds the most urgency in your eyes such as potty training. By doing this, you will relieve a lot of frustration that often comes with puppies being puppies and you will be making the most out of your time.
Pick one lesson and train on that lesson and that lesson only, for as long as it takes. Do not confuse your puppy as mixing different lessons in your Yorkshire Terrier obedience training can cause upsets. It can cause confusion on the part of the puppy as the terms you use in training for one thing to another may get mixed up and it is important that your pup learns the proper commands in order to make this a success.
One of the most important things that owners should know when putting a pup through a Yorkshire Terrier obedience training routine is to make sure that you do not end up showing anger, fear, or frustration to your dog as he or she will pick up on that and that will cause an interference in the training process.
Make sure that you always remain happy and keep a positive tone about you. And make sure that each and every time your little puppy does something right praise him or her so that they understand what actions make you happy.
Even though when Yorkshire Terrier training is done correctly, it is only a part of life and it is very natural that you will see and experience bumps in the road. Do not let this set you back too far and just make sure to pull yourself together, love the puppy, and keep on with the training routine that you had put into place in the first place. Even many dog training books will talk about the setbacks that people tend to run across. But if you are consistent, you will come out on top.
