More and more people are considering the alternatives to fossil fuel derived energy sources every day. This is not a area specific phenomenon, it is actually growing rapidly in a global trend. Why do we need alternative fuels globally?

Trees are the front line troops against the environmental harm done by fossil fuel emissions. And electric cars sounds great until you realize that you need to recharge the batteries every day and consider how that could impact the power grids in large cities, etc.
These are the big picture factors that have to be considered when assessing the value, benefit and effectiveness of alternative energy sources.
