Choosing the Right Lego Sets for Your Kids

By: Bronnie Vaughn

Most mom and dads prefer purchasing toys that are both intellectually stimulating and entertaining at the same time. For such choosy parents, the time tested Lego building sets always take the cake. Not only are Lego's popular to all age groups because of the varied difficulty levels and skills needed for every set, they are also educational instruments that help enhance a child's creativity, problem solving and building skills while having fun. With just a bit of imagination, these humble blocks of different colors turn into hours of pirate adventures just like what Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew went through in the movie pirates of the Caribbean or intergalactic space building adventures where they can imagine themselves as astronauts out on a mission. The only limit is your child's imagination that I'm sure there would be no lack of especially, if played with a friend.
Lego building sets are among the most popular toys currently being sold. In fact, there was a recent survey that showed the amount of Lego blocks that were sold ever since their debut when added together would give each and every person in the world 30 blocks each! That's a little more than 180 billion Lego bricks altogether! It's no surprise, really, because these are both educational and fun. What person wouldn't want that in a toy? Perhaps one of the best things about Lego toy sets is the fact that there would be no room for boredom. Say your kid has finished building something that he or she eventually gets tired of after a while. They can simply take it apart and build something new to play with it's that easy! There isn't a need to buy a new toy so it's also easier on the parent's pocket book.
Among the various themes that Lego sets come in, how does one go about choosing which one is right for their kids? You can do this by either choosing according to their age or their interests. First off, we have the youthful Duplo blocks that are perfect for the youngest kids. These are big enough not to get swallowed and are made to be brightly colored to make them even more attractive to little kids. These are what people would often refer to as starter Lego's as they are probably the first sets you would buy your children. Next, we move on to kids who are aged 9-12 who require something more challenging than the Duplo sets. This is where it becomes really fun. For kids this age, there are plenty of themed Lego toy sets to choose from. Movie and television show inspired, musical, robotics, city life, and construction to vehicle development. The choices just go on and on.
But maybe, the best advice that one can give is to let your kids choose for themselves as soon as they are old enough. After all, they are the ones who are going to play with it so why not get them something that you know for sure they would like. Besides no matter which building set they choose, whether they go for a pirate or a space adventure, they would always benefit from the creative stimulant that is a Lego set.
