Chinese Characters & Stroke Order

Chinese characters are very appealing. There are actually thousands of different characters each with their own meaning and way of being drawn. Speaking of drawing, these characters can sometimes be extremely difficult to draw. Every character has its own way of being drawn called stroke order, it is crucially the order in which lines and curves should be drawn in order for the character to be correct..
In the English language, there is a lot of leeway when it comes to writing a character. For example with the character “t” it does not really matter whether you draw the horizontal stroke or the vertical stroke first. The end result is still a “t”. However in Chinese, writing a word with an incorrect stoke order is wrong and sometimes can end up meaning something else.
Some characters have simple stroke sequence needing less than four three or four strokes, while some of the more complex ones can have more than of twenty different strokes, all of which need to be memorized for the stroke order in which they come in. If just one stroke is incorrect it is deemed to be written wrongly.
Most Chinese characters have two or more meanings depending on which character it is. It can collectively make Chinese one of the more difficult languages to learn but mastering it can be very gratifying.
Chinese characters are deeply rooted in some other Asian cultures e.g. the Japanese and Korean. The current Japanese character set is called Kanji and is derived from Chinese characters. While some characters are quite different many are still similar and has the same meaning as Chinese characters.
In the English language, one character rarely means anything. However one Chinese character usually means something and sometimes can mean several things. When combined with other characters it can create whole sentences. As such it is up to the reader to understand the context that the character is written to decipher the meaning of what is written.
