Are You Feeding Your Dog Properly?

By: Tim Tropical

As a responsible dog owner, we realize that it is necessary for us to take care of our dogs whenever they are unable to take care of themselves. Yes, we get unconditional love from them and in many cases, they protect us in one way or another. There are a lot of things that they are unable to do for themselves, however, whenever they are living in our environment. For example, we need to make sure that they are well cared for as far as having a warm place to sleep and being able to get in out of the weather whenever it is hot or cold outside. It is also necessary for us to make sure that we are feeding them properly.

Most of us tend to be a little bit concerned about the dog food that we are giving to our pet. Some individuals simply buy the least expensive product that is on the market but responsible dog ownership tells you that you need to make sure that they are being fed properly and that the food they are getting is nutritious. The fact of the matter is, there may be things that are hiding underneath the surface that you are unaware of which can really compromise the health of your dog.

The reason why this is the case is because the people that regulate what goes on within the dog food industry do not have the same strict guidelines that many of the industries that watch after food for human consumption. A good example of this is dog food that is considered to be organic or chemical free. It is perfectly fine for a dog food company to stamp the words organic on the dog food bag, even if the byproducts that are going into the food come from chemical laden animals or vegetables that have been sprayed with pesticides. As long as nothing additional goes into the dog food once it reaches the factory, this is perfectly legal.

It is also important for you to look after the different byproducts that are within the food itself. Feeding the dog food that is primarily made from corn or grain is going to be unhealthy for your dog. Yes, they are going to eat it up but this is simply because there are other chemicals that are added to the food which make it addictive for your dog. When was the last time you saw a wild dog eating an ear of corn or snacking on wheat? That is why it is so unhealthy for you to feed these types of things to your dog. If you must feed your dog a store-bought food, make sure that the main ingredient is an animal, perhaps lamb or chicken.

With all of the different things that you need to be concerned about as far as your dog's health is concerned, feeding them properly should be at the top of the list. If you feed your dog the right foods, they will be around for many years as your companion.
