A Square Peg in a Round Hole

By: Teach Tech45

If I have learned anything recently it is this, "There are no shortcuts". If you remember nothing else from this article please remember that. It will inevitably save you some future frustration. With so many people posting things on the Internet how do YOU stand out. The first hurdle to overcome is developing something that is worth putting up on the Internet. Just useless verb-age is meaningless. Content for content sake may not be a good enough reason to post.

Writers have it closer to the mark. The write out of a need to express, to convey something that either has not been said or needs to be said. They are driven to write - to express. Often today there seems to be glut of "information". This information does not communicate anything of real value. It is at least not of the quality that they would aspire toward. Quality in any endeavour takes time, effort, work and more work. Something is defined in such glowing terms as "Best" "Excellent" or "Exceptional" does not happen by accident.

The same can be said of marketing and content on the Internet. Steps must be carefully followed: Idea inception, free flow of thought, broad considerations, narrowing of focus, pinpointing the useful and practical, general workup, content and keyword considerations, placement of the website and a host of other things. Once these decisions are reached, others follow. How often will content be updated? What is the way to best present this information so that it is both visually appealing and practical?

Practical considerations might include determining whether the content in question works in all popular Internet browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. With new browsers appearing on the horizon at an astonishing fast rate, a seemingly trivial consideration becomes extremely significant. Colour and font size is another important factor. Big enough to read comfortable, but not too big that the text wraps around in some unexpected ways or becomes unpleasant to look it.

It is also true that the arrangement of "white space" around a site is important. The point here is to leave some areas of your website empty by choice. This way others can search with ease and not feel their eyes drawn to some cluttered page. The result, they may not know where to look. Chose your images, text and, indeed all aspects of your website carefully and with purpose so that each element works together. One compliments the other. This way people will find what they are looking for and they will enjoy coming to your website.

Remember, there are no shortcuts. "You can't put a square peg in a round hole."
